WEMT, EMT-BRick has a long history of enjoying the outdoors, starting as an Eagle Scout to involvement in SAR to guiding in the Adirondacks, the White Mountains, the Olympic Peninsula, and Washington State. He has led canoeing, backpacking, winter ski camping, rock climbing, team building, and snowmobile trips. As the Program Manager at Stonewater, he enjoys equipping staff to be effective guides and taking students out on experiences they otherwise wouldn’t do on their own.
He isn’t getting much use out of his Electrical Engineering degree, but volunteering on the local ambulance and raising five kids has given him practical patient care experience and put his EMT training to better use. Teaching for WMA is an opportunity to combine the varied experiences of his life with a solid curriculum to prepare people to better enjoy their own adventures. As author and theologian Howard Thurman says, “Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
