Marianne Sutton

Marianne is the pediatrician for a sleepaway camp in New York State as well as a wilderness medicine instructor. After working for years for Doctors without Borders (MSF), she found her way to wilderness medicine by merging her love of the outdoors with her professional experience practicing medicine in limited resource settings. After medical school and residency, she completed a fellowship in Academic Pediatrics which included “teaching to teach” and a Masters in Public Health. She worked as pediatric hospitalist in Massachusetts before living overseas for more than ten years. She has worked as a hospice doctor in Austria and a pediatrician in many African countries and in Australia. She has taught PALS, Neonatal Resuscitation, Helping Babies Breathe and BLS. She has also taught pediatrics to medical students and residents in the USA and physicians, nurses and nurses’ aides in Africa.
She is the author of the first textbook of pediatrics for MSF and was an editor of the MSF Clinical Guidelines. She runs a vaccine clinic in her community in order to make COVID and other vaccinations more available to families with small children. She lives on the Hudson River where she manages 9 acres of conservation land and runs a bed and breakfast. For her, teaching WMAI brings together her love of the outdoors, her experience practicing medicine in remote settings and a profound commitment to teaching and public health. In her free time, she can be found enjoying family or hiking, biking, skiing, Nordic skiing, climbing or traveling.
