Paul Lovaas

Location

Wisconsin, United States

Paul is a former summer camp director, wilderness trip leader, staff training manager, semester school teacher, and a recurrent WMA student. From directing hundreds of youth wilderness trips each summer at Camp Manito-wish YMCA to guiding students and staff through winter camping excursions in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with Conserve School, Paul’s professional outdoor experiences have been connected by the through-lines of sound risk management and high-quality wilderness medical training. His recently completed Instructor Training Course was Paul’s 8th WMA course after over a decade of wilderness first aid and wilderness first responder trainings. Currently, Paul works as the Parks Department Supervisor for La Crosse County the Driftless Region of Wisconsin and spends his free time answering 911 calls with Tri-State Ambulance where he used to work full-time as an EMT. When he’s not driving the ambulance Paul enjoys cross-country skiing, bikepacking, ultimate frisbee, and paddling adventures by canoe and/or SUP with his wife and their faithful adventure dog, Ole.
