Maddie Harris

In between shifts as a primary care paramedic in BC, Maddie loves to adventure, both at home and abroad. Before becoming a paramedic, she spent years leading wilderness expeditions for the YMCA and Outward Bound, guiding teens through canoeing, hiking, dog sledding, and snowshoeing trips that sometimes lasted more than a month. She holds a degree in Outdoor Recreation, Parks & Tourism and took her first WFR course in 2012. Her background combines urban emergency response with years of wilderness experience, giving her a grounded, flexible approach to both medicine and teaching.

Teaching and learning have always been at the heart of Maddie’s work. She has taught leadership courses in the outdoors, worked at a forest school, and taught English as a Second Language to young learners both online and in person. She believes that people learn best through repetition, challenge, and understanding—and she strives to create inclusive spaces where every student feels welcome and capable. Whether in an ambulance or the backcountry, she loves helping others gain the confidence to stay calm, think clearly, and care for those around them.
