Emily joined WMA as an assistant instructor in October 2024. She has been working in emergency medicine as a physician associate for over ten years, first in Arizona, and then Southern California in both the emergency department and pre-hospital care. Prior to this she worked as an emergency medical technician in EMS in Los Angeles.

She is also a volunteer backpacking instructor for the Sierra Club Wilderness Travel Course since 2019. She loves improving people’s outdoors skills and knowledge and empowering them to explore the wilderness respectfully.

Emily had limited exposure to the outdoors growing up, with infrequent hikes. She was fortunate to find courses and friends to show her the outdoors and expand her skillset. As such, she has a passion to make the wilderness accessible and familiar to others, especially those who find it intimidating. It is because of this that she became involved with WMA, helping students feel more comfortable being outdoors knowing they can handle emergencies.
