Keira Loukes became a WMA Instructor in the spring of 2024. She currently works as an Assistant Professor at Lakehead University in the School of Outdoor Recreation, Parks & Tourism in Thunder Bay ON. She studies food systems, food security, and food sovereignty, focusing mainly on local initiatives to revitalize traditional and alternative food systems in northern Ontario First Nations. She loves harvesting manoomin, fishing, and is learning how to hunt (helps if you don’t fall asleep in the blind). Keira loves being on the water and has guided and paddled lakes and rivers in Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, NWT and the Yukon for the last two decades. She loves drinking coffee, singing, fishing (especially the eating part), swimming, biking, skiing, hiking and just generally being on the river.
