Sam graduated from College of the Atlantic with a BA in Human Ecology, after spending two years at the University of Montana and a semester with Sea Education Association.  He began his career in experiential education working for Outward Bound’s Sea Program as a sailing instructor, climber, and course director for 10 years.  After co-founding a screen printing and design business on his home island of North Haven and perusing other interests, he returned to education and is currently the operations director of the Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership.  Sam is a volunteer member of the North Haven Island EMS crew as an EMT-B, US Coast Guard licensed captain, and an avid beekeeper.
