Tom Rowan

For as long as he can remember, Tom has sought out opportunities for exploration and adventure. Whether he was tromping through the woods looking for the perfect location for his next tree fort or building BMX trails as a young boy; discovering rock climbing, white-water rafting, and skiing as a teenager; or his first “real” backpacking trip to the Adirondacks with his dad after high school graduation; Tom has always been drawn to the outdoors and the unique variety of education it has to offer. So much so that in college, despite the deep concerns of his parents, he decided to follow his passion and make a go of it with a career in outdoor and adventure education. A path that has been difficult at times but ultimately pays dividends every time he shares his experience and passion with a new group of students.
Over the last 20 years Tom has worn many hats, a true Jack of all Trades in the adventure realm. Tom has worked as Therapeutic Wilderness Instructor, Rock Climbing Guide, climbing wall and ropes course manager, Outward Bound Instructor and Trail Crew leader for Youth and Adult Trail Crews in Maine and Alaska. Tom is currently the Adventure Programming and Risk Management Director for Yellow Breeches Educational Center where he is engaging and empowering special education students and teachers through adventure based activities.
Tom’s greatest Adventure has been sharing his passion for all things outdoors with his 3 young sons and ever understanding and equally adventurous wife. In his downtime, when not on a mountain Bike, Tom can be found exploring the many rock outcroppings, waterways, and Trails of Central PA with his whole crew in tow, whether they like it or not…they mostly like it.
