Earn Continuing Education credits from your WMA course
Most of our standard courses are approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Prehospital Continuing Education (CAPCE). We also offer AMA PRA Category I Credits for our WALS course and many of our WEMS courses provide credits for nurses.
Continuing Education Options
EMRs, EMTs, and Paramedics
Most standard courses award continuing education hours (CEHs) to EMS professionals through the Commission on Accreditation for Prehospital Continuing Education (CAPCE). Review the table and sample CEH distributions for more information.

Nurses
Most State Boards of Registered Nurses accept the AMA Category 1 Credit issued in a WALS course for license renewal. Most WEMS Upgrade courses are approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider # CEP17692, for 45 contact hours. View the specific course you wish to attend to confirm eligibility. Nurses should check with their state board regarding use of these credits.
Physicians and Physician Assistants
Physicians, physician assistants / associates, and other ALS certified professionals who attend the WALS course can receive up to 36 hrs of AMA PRA Category I Credit through the Wilderness Medical Society. This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the Wilderness Medical Society and WMA International. Physicians can also receive up to 36 hours of Mainpro-C credit through the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
The WALS course has been approved for Fellowship in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM) for 36 credits through the Wilderness Medical Society. Actual credits awarded depend on personal credit needs and history.
