Canadian Association of Wilderness Medicine 2025

Wilderness Medical Associates (WMA) was proud to take part in CAWM 2025, a three-day conference uniting wilderness medicine professionals, educators, and enthusiasts from across the wilderness medicine community. This year’s event offered an inspiring lineup of lectures, hands-on workshops, panel discussions, and social gatherings—available both in-person and online. Topics ranged from wilderness rescue case studies and frostbite management to toxins, altitude illness, and critical hemorrhage control. WMA President Abby Rowe and Lead instructor Jill Weenink (WMA Licensed Training Company in Nelson, BC) co-exhibited at the conference.

2025 WMS Desert Medicine Conference

The conference is designed for medical professionals who work, recreate, or guide in desert settings—as well as those who counsel or care for patients with desert exposure. Topics include the latest desert-specific rescue protocols, survival techniques, and clinical considerations unique to arid regions. Alongside earning CME credits, attendees will enjoy opportunities to network, engage in field-based learning, and experience the beauty of the Sonoran Desert.

Registration includes lectures, small group sessions, breakfasts, a welcome reception, and access to lecture recordings. Optional pre-conference sessions and workshops are available for an additional fee.

Cascadia Wilderness Medicine: Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course at Northland College taught by Amy Attivisimo. Wounded Bear Medicine: Wilderness Advanced Life Support (WALS) in Wilson, Wyoming, brought together 21 participants from across the U.S. for an immersive week of training. Led by an excellent instructor team, the course covered everything from patient assessment and packaging to high-altitude treatment and night operations with support from local Fire/EMS, Search and Rescue, and the Sheriff’s Office.
