Enrollment in the course must be complete no later than 2 weeks prior to the course; 20-30 hours of pre-course work is required before the start of the course. Students must be at least 18 years old to participate in the course. No previous medical training is required.

Ideal environment for learning wilderness medical skills – forests, rock wall, streams, quarry, seashore, sailboat – all on site.   Course will be led by Jon Tierney, IFMGA/AMGA Mountain Guide, Flight and Wilderness Paramedic, FAWM and RN along with other members of the Acadia Mountain Guides team of highly skilled and experienced wilderness medicine instructors. Wilderness First Responder (WFR) is the definitive course in medical training for outdoor educators, guides, SAR team members, and others who work or play in remote areas. The curriculum is comprehensive and practical, including all of the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments.
