Kevin Hunt

Kevin has made his home in Indianapolis, IN where he worked for the Wayne Township Fire Department in Indianapolis as a career firefighter and paramedic. The fire service has also provided Kevin with experience as a HAZMAT tech, rescue specialists, and EMS primary instructor. Kevin has a diverse background as a professional guide in the backcountry of the Pacific Northwest; at one time he was a US Army medic and continues to be an avid backpacker and mountaineer. When not on shift at the firehouse, Kevin is busy searching for the elusive outdoor adventure in central Indiana!


Daniel Solchanyk

Daniel comes to us as an AEMT with 15 years of patient care experience.  His passion for traveling, medicine, and mountains has resulted in over 5 seasons of experience as an expedition medical officer for various international high-altitude mountaineering expeditions.  He attended the University of California at Davis, earning his B.S. in Human Development and Psychology.  He currently resides in California.


Megan Lapierre

Megan is a Wilderness EMT and a New York State Forest Ranger. As such she is a Police Officer, Wildland Firefighter and heavily involved in Search and Rescue. She has background in Environmental Education as a counselor and director, and has a Masters Degree from SUNY ESF in Water and Wetland Management and Policy. Her hobbies include competitive swimming, teaching swimming, hiking, kayaking, whitewater rafting, music, hunting and of course, as a wife and mother raising a family and running a household!


Jeff Baierlein

Jeff Baierlein has worked as an EMT with ambulance services in Washington State and Arizona, and served as team leader, member and trainer with technical, high-angle and backcountry Search and Rescue teams in New Hampshire, Arizona, and Washington.  Jeff has led mountaineering, backpacking, rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, canyoneering, caving, and sailing trips in the US and internationally with a variety of organizations since 1987. Jeff is the Director of Viristar (www.viristar.com), providing consulting and training for outdoor programs.  He has been the Executive Director of the Boojum Institute for Experiential Education and the Executive Director of the Baltimore Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound Center, and has served in leadership roles with other outdoor education, field science and environmental education nonprofits.  Jeff is an expert witness regarding wilderness safety and outdoor education, and Vice Chair of the Washington Advisory Committee of the Northwest Outward Bound School Board of Directors.  Jeff has been a Board member of the Association for Experiential Education, the Northwest Environmental Education Council, Prescott College, and the Community Foundation’s Idyllwild Community Fund, as well as a member of the Washington State Governor’s Council on Environmental Education.  Jeff has been teaching for Wilderness Medical Associates since 1997.

Axel Ernir Vidarsson

I live in Akureyri in the north of Iceland as a full time firefighter/EMT. I have been a member of ICE-SAR since 2005 and I have been teaching for ICE-SAR since 2008. I teach first response, avalanche awareness/rescue and missing persons search techniques. My focus in search and rescue has been medical first response and technical rope rescue. I also teach first aid for the Icelandic Red Cross. I took my first WFR in 2009 and my EMT degree in 2015. In my free time I like all kinds of mountaineering and outdoor activity, especially hiking, trail running and skiing.
