John Bestfather

Drawing from an outdoor guiding career of paddling, climbing, and dogsledding combined with a career as a Paramedic John is here to share his passion for both the outdoors and medicine. Bridging the gap between pre-hospital care and the constraints of wilderness medicine allow John to deliver realism and practicality in his teachings.  He looks forward to engaging student’s critical thinking and skills to prepare them for the unknown array of situations, environments, and challenges they may face. John currently resides in the Yukon Territory where he works as a Critical Care Flight Paramedic. He spends his free time cycling, paddling, preparing for expeditions and embracing his love affair of climbing (of over 15 years).


Corenne Black

Corenne is a Forest Ranger with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and currently resides in the Adirondack Park.  She volunteers with her local rescue squad as well. Corenne spends her free time hiking, kayaking, trail running, cross country skiing and camping with her husband. 


Gary Holt

Gary is a professional educator with a BS in Education, currently pursuing his MS in Educational Leadership. He has nine plus years teaching and coaching in public education. Gary has spent the last few years working as a guide for a wilderness therapy group in North Idaho. He has worked as a volunteer WEMT for the local ambulance for the past nine years. In his free time you will find Gary hiking, four-wheeling, hunting or spending time with his many nieces and nephews.

Tamara Grantham

Tami Grantham is a Primary Care Paramedic who has worked for the past 20 years in Northern BC and in remote Northern Communities as a Medic and Ecologist. Tami grew up on the shores of Kluane Lake in an off the grid cabin with her two siblings and parents. They lived very much a subsistence harvest lifestyle; hunting, fishing and trapping.    Tami a NOLS Alumnist, has worked as a Medic and Guide for the Dept of Education, numerous private industry companies and is now the Senior Manager of Heritage Lands and Natural Resources for the Carcross/Tagish First Nation. She also is the sole owner of WILDER where women from all over the world come to learn Northern Bushcraft, Environmental Connection, Backcountry Travel and Cooking and so much more!!   She is an avid and experienced outdoors woman who lives on a 160 acre mixed farm with 9 horses, 3 dogs, 8 pigs, 100's of chickens and turkeys, rabbits and her husband Lloyd.
