Jessica Jeffery

Jessica is a nurse at a private boarding middle school in the Adirondacks.  She has been a ski patrioller and back-country caretaker.  She spends her free time surfing,skiing, skateboarding, and climbing with her husband and son.


Sverrir Arnason

Sverrir is a professional Firefighter/EMT-I  with Reykjavik capital district fire and emergency services since 2005. W-EMT taken in 2009. He is also a certified tourist guide, giving him a chance to bring tourists to the Icelandic highlands and glaciers as a second job.   He is a member of ICE-SAR(voluntary search and rescue) where he has been taking part in educating and training members in outback first aid (Fyrsta hjálp í óbyggðum) witch is based on WMA curriculum.  He has also been working as assistant instructor for EMT courses and instructor for First responder courses for Reykjavik fire and rescue.   When ones interests and work align this well, one doesn't need hobbies but traveling with family and friends, both in and out of Iceland, is the free time activity of choice.


John Bestfather

Drawing from an outdoor guiding career of paddling, climbing, and dogsledding combined with a career as a Paramedic John is here to share his passion for both the outdoors and medicine. Bridging the gap between pre-hospital care and the constraints of wilderness medicine allow John to deliver realism and practicality in his teachings.  He looks forward to engaging student’s critical thinking and skills to prepare them for the unknown array of situations, environments, and challenges they may face. John currently resides in the Yukon Territory where he works as a Critical Care Flight Paramedic. He spends his free time cycling, paddling, preparing for expeditions and embracing his love affair of climbing (of over 15 years).


Gary Holt

Gary is a professional educator with a BS in Education, currently pursuing his MS in Educational Leadership. He has nine plus years teaching and coaching in public education. Gary has spent the last few years working as a guide for a wilderness therapy group in North Idaho. He has worked as a volunteer WEMT for the local ambulance for the past nine years. In his free time you will find Gary hiking, four-wheeling, hunting or spending time with his many nieces and nephews.

Katie Woods

Katie’s first introduction to wilderness medicine began in 2006 as a ski patroller at Massanutten Resort in Virginia. She graduated from James Madison University with a BS in Athletic Training in 2008 and went on to complete her Master’s Degree in Exercise and Sport Science/Sports Medicine from the University of Utah in 2011. Originally from ‘Almost Heaven’, Katie summers in Fayetteville WV, working as a white water raft guide, independent contractor ATC, and overall outdoor enthusiast.  In her free time, she enjoys making jewelry and hanging out with her dog Moonshine (aka, Shiner). Katie is passionate about sharing the world of wilderness medicine with others and can’t wait to continue traveling around this great country.


James Murphy

James "MURPH" Murphy is a full-time Firefighter/ EMT with the Town of Sandwich. Murph is currently also an Instructor with the Barnstable County Fire/ Rescue Training Academy. He is also an Instructor for the Municipal Police Training Committee. Prior to working as a Firefighter Murph was also a Law Enforcement Officer (28+ yrs.) and a Rescue Technician with the FEMA USAR Task Force who deployed to the Atlanta Summer Olympics and the World Trade Center. Murph is also an active NSP Ski Patroller in New Hampshire. Murph lives on Cape Cod with his amazing wife Michelle and their daughter Scout, plus their 5 horses, 3 dogs, 20 chickens, and 1 goat. Murph loves to ski, kayak, trail run, hike, and mountain bike.
