Shoulder-Season Skills for Quiet, Consequential Conditions
Fall in Heber City offers cool days, cold nights, and fewer people in the field. This quieter season creates an ideal environment for practicing patient care when resources are limited and help may be far away. Training during shoulder season reinforces conservative decision-making in conditions where small issues can escalate quickly.
This is our full in-person 7-Day course format. There are no pre-requisites or pre-course work. Students will have access to the online textbook in advance and will be sent a hardcopy of the textbook upon request. Lodging is available at the course site in heated yurts or camp on site with access to showers and kitchen. Our property is on a private ranch that borders National Forest, but is only ten minutes from town. Bus service from Denver and available shuttle to the course site.
Full Course DescriptionMeals and lodging are not included in your course tuition. A range of accommodations are available at AMC’s Harriman Outdoor Center during your program, and meals are also available for purchase. Participants may reserve lodging and meals at a discounted rate while attending the course. Full Course DescriptionWFA is a great introduction the concepts of wilderness medicine- ideal for personal adventures, and is also a requirement for many outdoor education programs.
This is a specialized, 3 Day version of the WFA course designed to meet training requirements for Sierra Club leaders- however, all are welcome!
Idyllwild: a classic mountain town with world-class climbing and bouldering…phenomenal mountain biking…stellar hiking…with lots of foodie (and its own brewpub)- all within walking distance.
