INSTRUCTOR SPOTLIGHT
Anthony Stevens
Anthony Stevens is a seasoned wilderness educator and rescue professional whose roots run deep in the mountains of Wyoming. Born and raised in Jackson Hole, Anthony developed a lifelong connection to the backcountry early on.
His professional journey began as a Medical Instructor for SOLO. That foundation evolved into a multifaceted career: NOLS instructor to Search & Rescue Technician, and eventually to his current role as Training Director for Teton County Search and Rescue—a position he’s held for nearly a decade. Over the years, he’s gained extensive certifications in swiftwater rescue, high angle rescues, and helicopter operations, and has led hundreds of missions in some of the most challenging terrain in the U.S.

As his instructional philosophy grew, Anthony co-founded Wounded Bear Medicine alongside his partner KC Bess. Shortly thereafter, Anthony became a Lead Instructor with WMA International leading quickly to Wounded Bear Medicine to becoming a WMA-licensed training company. He praises WMA’s curriculum and teaching philosophy for pushing his clinical thinking and decision-making under pressure to a new level. “You really have to think for yourself,” he says. “Nobody teaches that better than WMA.”

“The WMA curriculum is recognized in many places around the world and is frequently updated by medical professionals. I feel confident that the information being delivered to students is up-to-date and high quality. Uplift Adventures values high quality in everything we do, and it aligns with our values. We also work with an amazing instructor who teaches these courses and is a medical professional in our community. We wanted to provide these courses for two reasons 1) for our community and surrounding area to have access to valuable resources without having to travel, but also 2) for people to have the opportunity to experience this course in the lesser-known parts of the Canadian Rockies and to showcase our beautiful mountain town to others.” – Heather (Uplift Adventure)
